SALLAH DURBAR IN KANO

Durbar has been meant to celebrate special occasions such as religious sallah festivals, honouring of Heads of Government installation of new traditional and entertainment of Guests especially from outside country. The Durbar displayed the rich traditions of Hausas culture.

The Durbar is marked with a colourdul and special display of well dressed horsemen and sometimes women in a traditional attires, horses are also dress in a rich costumes and decorations. In the other hand the other people who are not horses riders are also in traditional dresses following the proceedings the Durbar is also important personalities staged to pay homage to the and honoured guests of the Emirs who happen to be in Kano.

During the Sallah festivals Kano spend and three day celebrating Sllah Durbar with different place to go by His Highness the Emir of Kano, namely Eld-Durbar, Hawan Daushe Durbar, Hawan Nassarawa and finally Dorayi or Fanisau Durbar.

EID-DURBAR

The first day of Sallah around 7am the Emir leaves his place on fool enroute through Kofar Fatawa passes so many Quarters and finally arrives at the Eid prayer ground. After the Eid-prayers finishes. The Emir then leaves the Eid ground passes Kofar Wambai, Karofin Zage, Shahucin and proceeded to his palace at Central mosque or Kofar Kwaru where the Emir is received by the Governor of State. The Emir hosts a mini Durbar and delivers a speech on the current issues effecting the people of the state, and the people dispass for that day.

HAWAN DAUSHE

This day is considered the most impressive most colourful and most interested part of the Durbar celebrations. Because of it’s importance over 3500 horse men and women parade to portray the rich tractions of Kano, this referred as the royal exhibition of traditional garments and attairs or (regalia).

The Hawan Daushe starts around 4:00pm. The Emir leaves his palace in a colourful procession, passes to through Kofar Fatalwa Daneji, Galadanci, Diso, Chiranchi and many more, then back.

At the palace, the Emir receives homage from all traditional title holders including District heads, village head and wards heads and the Durbar ends at 6:00pm when the Emir retires to his residence.

HAWAN NASSARAWA

The Nassarawa occasion started during colonial era. The then Emir of Kan used to pay homage to the resident of Governor. The resident Governor and Emir of Kano read out their addresses.

Nowadays, the Emir pays homage to the state Governor during each third day of Sallah period. The Emir leaves his palace through (Southern gate). He then passes Kofar Nassarawa to state road, and arrives at the Emirs residence at Nassarawa for brief stop over. Were he offers prayers to the grave sites of late Emirs’. The Emir proceed to the Government House to be received by the state governor and members executive council of the state. The Emir receives sallah greetings from his people of different culture and tribe who resides in Kano. 

HAWAN FANISAU OR DORAYI

This day referred as a Royal picnics outing it takes place on either 4^th or 5 day after sallah. The Emir invites his District Heads village Heads and traditional title holders for a lunch at one of his palaces at (Fanisau or Dorayi) for the above purpose. The outing start at 7:00am and ends at 5:00pm with this comes to the end of the Sallah Durbar.
